To All You Non-Volunteers…..

I get that not everyone has the time to volunteer for events, groups and organizations. That’s perfectly fine. However……please be considerate of those that DO volunteer.
Definition of a volunteer:
–noun
- A person who voluntarily offers himself or herself for a service or undertaking.
- A person who performs a service willingly and without pay.
Show me where this states I am your slave, bitch, errand girl, or messenger.
Case in point:
- The mom who has a son that quit the program and wants me to MAIL her son’s photos. Excuse me but, you live in the same town I do. A quarter of a mile away, in fact. Let me get this straight, okay? I should find a large sturdy envelope to mail this in, drive half a mile away to the post office. Reach into my pocket and pull out the money for postage just to save you a that quarter of a mile drive? Kiss my…….yeah THAT, thank you. Not happening.
- The mom who wants me to take her son’s jersey to the cleaners to have it altered because SHE ordered the wrong size jersey. Yeah okay, right after I get back from the post office for the other mom.
- The dad who would like me to fax him directions to every field we play at, when it’s clearly posted on our town’s website. I played dumb and just emailed him the link to the website. Hi, I’m not your wife. Get her to print it out for you.
Honestly, I do love volunteering. I would not do it if I didn’t get pleasure from it. But c’mon……I do this for free. My free time is just as valuable as yours.

You go, girl! When my daughter was in gymnastics I actually had a mother say to me (when I politely declined during her errand for her) “But you’re a stay at home mom. You’ve surely got the spare time. I don’t. I work for a living.” (Honest to God. It was everything in me not to take her down.)

I had forgotten just how inconsiderate people can be. Have you ever noticed the same people do all the volunteering over and over and over too?

Absolutely I’ve noticed this! It’s the same people every year. And like I said….that’s fine, but at least pitch in by keeping your mouth quiet when the VOLUNTEERS are all doing the best they can.

It is worth it though, right? When your son sees you in school or at whateer activity it is that you work at. Helps silence the noise of the unappreciative.

Sometimes you have to ask: What’s wrong with people? Why would they even think ASKING for such thing is even OK? My children go to a Chinese school on Sundays that’s 100% volunteer-run. We do cookie dough fundraising every year. One year a woman had to gall to ask the lady in charge of the fundraising to bake the cookies for her. AND she asked the lady to deliver the cookies to her house because she was having a party. EXCUSE ME??!!
