Reactions to My Blog

9 September 2009 26 Comments

commentsI have been overwhelmed in many ways by different reactions, responses and observations about this blog.  I have not come out of the closet about having a blog.  I really do love talking to myself out loud on here, and I like that no one in my personal life can hear me talking. Not because I have anything to hide, but because I like having personal space. This blog is my personal space. And as any mom knows…..we get so little personal space in life.

The post I wrote called Public Education is …..Free? I was shocked when someone from Book Sox contacted me about sending me some to try. I had written about how costly it is to send your child back to school, and he wanted me to see the value of spending money on their product.  Bravo to them for giving a damn about insignificant me.

The post I wrote called Blogging Vs Self-Marketing? I was overwhelmed by readers that actually spent their precious time writing meaningful and insightful content.  As a writer (totally amateur at best), knowing that someone actually processed what you wrote is a great feeling. Whether you agree with my thoughts, or not, the fact that you had something valuable to say is very meaningful to me.

The post that I wrote called Best Potato Salad Ever? It’s got the fewest comments but the highest number of “views”.  So I’m wondering, has anyone in the universe ever tried making it? Hope I didn’t food poison them.

I’ve been surprised by the connections I have made with other bloggers.  One mom, who went the route of adoption for motherhood. I feel very connected to her for the similar journey we shared. Another mom because of her creativity. I am in awe of her talent and wish I had time again to try some of her projects. I drool over her blog.

All in all, I’ve really come to love blogging.  To those who knock it as some of petty mommy thing…I say…..your loss.

It’s the connections I forge with other bloggers that is the most meaningful part of blogging for me. :)

For a mom who lives in a secluded area where everyone thinks the same and acts the same way, I’m well… outside of the box kinda girl! Blogging allows me to connect with people who I would have never been able to meet in my everyday life and I’m the better for it!
Blogging has been the best thing for me and my sanity!

One of my neighbors found me on twitter so that cat is out of the bag but she is cool so that’s fine! I love the connections and yes – I love drooling over those creative people. I am going to become one myself darn it! I am so glad I “met” you!

Oh one more thing – my most hits was on how to make a gerbera flower arrangement post but it has the fewest comments. I think a lot of how to’s get high google search hits but you just don;t get the thanks from the people who try it. They aren’t all bloggers and don’t fell the comment luv the way we do! At least that is what I think…

loved the post — i am addicted to blogging now and am still so new at it — but i think my husband is wondering where he lost me to, so i have to find a balance between writing the blog, reading the gazillion blogs, and seeing him at night once he’s finally home.
i always wanted to be a journalist and never had enough confidence in my writing ability, so this has allowed me to have that “career” after all — and there’s one blog that i have a reaction to that you wrote — the not feeling old one, a few days before your birthday – i had a reaction to that one and may just have to email about that one and ask you for some advice! ha

I really found interesting your comment about how glad you are that you kept your blog private. I wish, now, that I had done the same. It was “private” for about 2 weeks and then mentioned it to a few people. Now I find that I’m censoring myself. Not what I had in mind with I started this. I suppose I could start another….

I’m surprised, too, by the criticism of mommy blogs. This is a great community and I love the ability to connect to other women with similar interests, strengths, weaknesses, stories.

Maybe start a more private one? I told a close friend I have a blog, but fortunately for me she is more interested in dating than whatever it is I am writing. I think she forgot.

Oh I’m a private Mommy blogger too! Very much in hiding (except for the hubby…we don’t do secrets)
Love your blog and I think keeping it your private place let’s you be a little bit more honest? That’s the way it is with me:)
    Bye for now!

Nancy I can honestly say I look forward to hearing what you have to say every day. I have also kept my blog private, of sorts. So I’m pretty much free to be uncensored – except that I keep at the back of my mind that this is a smaaalll country and I can easily be identified.

I feel very encouraged to write when people visit regularly and send thoughtful messages. And I never in my wildest dreams thought I would find a community such as this!

@Jane – I have been planning to write a post just this week on that very same topic. I am very surprised at how mom-blogs are singled out!

I, too, am new to the world of Mommy Blogging… and I like it. I like that I have an outlet for all my anxieties… and I like that people are now scared of my complete and utter ability to single handedly usurp the world. With the help of my miniature human, of course. Some people think I’m crazy for putting our lives out on the Internet for the world to see. I say it’s great for people to get to know their next World Tyrant: me.

Great blog, I enjoy reading it.
