No Baby on Board

22 February 2010 36 Comments

Another milestone come and gone in my household.

Yesterday, my son asked if he could sit in the front seat now. And he can. He’s 10, he’s over the height requirement now.

So now begins the era of his hands all over the controls for the heat, air conditioner and worst of all….the stereo.  It made me laugh to see him try to adjust the sun visor to keep the sun out of his eyes, as air bag height requirement or not, he’s too short for the visor to have any positive use.

I like not feeling like the hired chauffeur anymore. Having his company up front with me is pretty nice, though I’ll miss reaching back there for his little boy hand to hold at stoplights.

That was so sweet and a little sad. My Bug is small for her size and still having to sit facing backwards in the backseat. I am looking forward to turning the carseat around so that I can see her face in the rearview mirror.

My son started sitting in the front seat a few months ago. He too likes to mess with my radio. Drives me crazy. I always make him stop. You don’t touch MY radio. ;-)

    Oh wow… that’s HUGE!!!

I love the sunvisor thing… I remember it not being worth a damn for me when I was a kid. That’s just too cute.

I often wonder what it will be like when Trinity can ride up front with me. I’m sure it will be bittersweet.

((hugs)) to you and your “big boy” now. ;)

I’m really loving the company up front. I almost don’t care what’s on the stereo.

Yeah, my daughter hit that milestone in the past year too. Now I have to deal with my two kids fighting over who gets shotgun or “Gun” as they call it. All I have to do is pick up my keys and somebody will scream from the other side of the house “I’ve got gun!”. It’s pavlovian.

Certainly a milestone! You’ll never have complete control of the ‘tunes’ again, actually, come to think about it – I really miss my kids music – they always put on the funnest stuff! I probably have no real sense of music taste :)

I have two fighting for the front seat too, it drives me nuts but the radio is worse. My mom always told me, leave it alone. When you are grown and have your own car you can listen to what you like. And now I’m thinking, wait, I’m in my own car, where is the music I like?

Oh no… I am in denial too. My son is 12 (March baby) and tall for his age, but I am still being this mean mom by keeping him in the backseat. He’s begged me several times. Actually, it will help cut down on the bickering and crying in the backseat if he sits in front… Ok. Now I need to rethink my policy… THIS is a big milestone indeed.

OMG! It just happened in our household too! This Sunday my husband let our 12 yo sit in the front seat. I tried not to think too much of it otherwise I’d get a case of “How fast time flies my baby is going to leave me soon” blues. Because my husb told him that his job now is to entertain the driver so no DS, my son right away asked to switch back with me. LOL.
