Me in Surround Sound

21 October 2010 14 Comments

So there we are. My son’s football game.

Let me set this up for you. It’s 7:30 PM. It’s a week night. It’s cold out. Our behinds are parked on cold, hard metal bleachers, that can barely even qualify as bleachers to begin with. In? On? these bleachers sits every mom on our team.

There is a dad who video tapes each game we have, (in HD, no less) and he is standing  about 6 feet in front of us.  Button set to “on” from kick off until the end of the game. It is only stopped during half time.

This video is watched by each coach on the team. And each family with a child on the team, receives a copy of their very own too. Thoughtful, right?

Did I mention the camcorder wielding Dad is just 6 feet from a bleacher that seats all 11 moms? Moms sitting out in 45 degrees on COLD, HARD bleachers for almost two hours?

So you can imagine how wonderful it was to sit down and watch the DVD from the last game in the comfort of my own warm home, on a comfy couch.  Snuggled up under a blanket. Fireplace going. A warm coffee in my hands. My husband, my son and me, all watching together. Some quality family time.

Can you also imagine this? My horror at hearing the sound of my own voice saying “I love it when my husband travels for work. It’s so calm in the house. I wish he would travel more often”.  I’m sure the mom I was talking with could do without hearing herself say “Oh my gosh, me too. The last time mine went away, I had the kids and the dog sleep over at my parents for a night”.

Awesome.

Now what makes this whole thing even worse is this:

The dad who takes those videos and transfers them to a dvd? He’s the other mom’s husband.  He edits each and every video, so you can be sure he heard this.

The dad who tapes each game? My husband. If he didn’t hear it when it was first said, he for sure didn’t miss it the second time around.  Via our surround sound system.
