Getting Your Money’s Worth Out of Jackets

16 October 2009 21 Comments

Last year my WonderBoy played his first season in our town’s Junior Football program. Three weeks into it, the program allowed you to buy a football jacket that would not only embroider his name onto it, but also put the positions he played on one of the sleeves.  All for the bargain price of $150.

I told him that playing football for 3 weeks does not make you a “football player” and that if he signed up again the following year I would buy the jacket for him.  He was awesome about it. No tantrums. Completely understood and there was peace in the land.

Until three weeks into this year’s season.  Darn child has too sharp of a memory and so there I was writing that check for $150.

The jackets came in earlier this week, just in time for the chilly weather.  Great timing.  Cause not only does it keep him warm outside on these crisp autumn days…….

…it also doubles as a pajama top.

He’s slept in it every night since it was delivered.  Makes me smile. I’m glad he’s so proud to have earned it.

OMG, he wakes up all sweaty. I’m hoping he gives up the habit soon because this jacket can only be dry cleaned.

Oh my gosh he is such a big boy in his football jacket! It is so good to make kkids wait and earn things. My brother and I did not eat candy for a year to get a huge G.I. Joe Battlestation ! Yep – no halloween! God we loved that battlestation. And man did we eat a lot of candy after we got it!

I’m glad I waited to buy it for him. I think it’s important to not jump everytime a child says “I want”. Just like the way your parents did with you guys.

Have to laugh. Wore it to sleep, woke up and took it off. Now he’s running around outside in just a tee-shirt and he SHOULD be wearing the jacket too.

Now and then, he’s a pretty reasonable kid. If I had told him he couldn’t EVER have it, I’m not sure he would have been tantrum free.

    Happy VGNO to you too.

Too funny… I finally broke down and bought my girls each a pair of Ugg boots. But let me tell ya, they live in them day and night. It’s a beautiful investment, especially with the long cold winters here in Upstate NY! PS… love this picture…adorable.

He does and he wakes up so sweaty. Seems SO uncomfortable to me! I’m hoping he breaks the habit soon, however he’s presently laying on the floor and watching the Yankee game in the jacket and flannel pj pants.

I love the story! My son did the same thing with his first Starter jacket when he was about 8. He even tried to eat dinner with it on! What memories this brought back for me :)
