Domestic Glee

21 December 2009 24 Comments

Okay, something is wrong here.  I had a, 100%  ”work from home” day today. The first one I have had in months and I spent 75% of it being domestic.

I kid you not. I did two loads of laundry. Shredded two giant garbage bags worth of scrap paper and vacuumed up the mess that ensued from it. I already have dinner semi made, I paid our bills, emptied out the dishwasher, organized my son’s toys AND took a shower like a real adult human being. No knocks on the door and no breaking up of any spats.

And you know what? I’m actually smiling and feeling like I accomplished a lot of good things today.

Oh wait, left out a major key to having my peaceful day in the first place. My husband is traveling because of work. This never would have happened had he been home.

Days like the one you described are heavenly! The feeling of accomplishment, the clean(er) house. Now I want to know how you managed to have a shower without interruption with kids at home?

I totally understand. I’m out of school for two weeks but I can’t seem to accomplish anything because I am interrupted by my sweet husband. He is like a 4 year old and constantly needs my approval and attention.

    Glad you enjoyed your day!

Wow! The last time I did housework I got physically ill. I’m glad that it had the opposite affect on you. It’s comforting to know that purging can also be good for the human soul.

When did we go from feeling like we were wasting our lives by staying in to feeling like it was the best day ever when we do? Not only that, cleaning to boot! Ah, nothing like the feeling of a clean house.

I’d love to find a good mix of domestic and career. Is there such a thing?

Wowza – good for you! I had a ‘snow day” today and aside from calling in for one conference call, I accomplished no work and no domesic stuff; laundry, dishes, etc are all untoucvhed. I did however watch the latest Harry Pottr on DVD, wrote the blog, and napped with the dogs!

That is so true! I can get so much done when my husband is away, while he’s home I just give up. No sense knocking myself out trying to clean when he just comes behind me making a mess.
