Blackless Friday
No, I will not be at Toys R Us at midnight tonight. I will not be at Target when their doors open at 5 AM either. Been there, done that and I just don’t get it at all.
So you get to the stores early to pick up one of those limited supply offers only to find out that you were customer number 26 for the 25 flat screen tvs that were offered only to fill your cart with $300 of other things you hadn’t planned on buying or even needed in the fist place. (Run on sentence there.)
I don’t get it at all. In this day and age with online shopping and free shipping and price comparison abilities, why bother?
I did the Black Friday thing one year. ONE YEAR. I did not get the flat panel tv, but I did spend $10 more than I needed to on a WII game. And I bought $200 worth of impulsive holiday gifts that weren’t on any one’s list.
I may do some holiday shopping but it will be from in comfort of pj’s, while in bed with a starbucks in hand.
Good luck to all of you brave souls out there in the trenches at 5 AM.

I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.

Won’t see me out there risking my life. I’m an internet shopper all the way. And I like my sleep. And I really don’t like having to elbow my way through crowds to save a couple of dollars.
Right now on the news they are featuring the people in their tents who are camping in front of Best Buy. It’s freakin’ cold tonight…below freezing! Is that worth saving $100?? Insane.

Nope, not here, either. I’m digging around now, but I’m not even sure what I’m looking for! Either way, happy saving, instead of shopping, and good luck finding whatever is on your lists!

Black Friday sounds like hell to me – but I pretty much shop on the internet for everything as it is. My husband claims that he’s going to get in line for a $300 TV at 4AM. Hope it works out, but I’ll be snug in bed!

I have gone out in years past to finish my Christmas shopping, but I was never in line for a “must buy.” This year Toys R’ Us really messed me up-sometimes I hate that store!I was planning on going because they did have some great deals, but at Midnight?
I decided that I would only do this store, but just in case I got on Amazon earlier in the evening to find the toys on my list. I’m glad I did because there was absolutely no parking any where near the store-people were parking across the street at the car wash and anywhere else they could make a spot. The line was from the front of the store to an auto body store across the street (how are they going to fit everyone in that store?), so I got back in my car and drove home.
I made out pretty good snagging the same deal in the circular as online at Toys R’ Us and free shipment, but one of my items at Amazon wasn’t ellible for free shipment(it was pretty large), so I payed shipping on this item, but I get to go to bed still liking people so it was worth the trade…

If I get the shopping done eary, I enjoy the time leading up to Christmas so much better-things aren’t as “hectic.”

I will NOT be going out on Black Friday…this year, or well, ANY year for that matter most likely. I’ve never been out on this day, and I just can’t seem to get behind turning shopping into a competitive sport. Just not my scene i guess…I’m the girl that likes going to the mall on a Tuesday after noon when the rest of the world is working, and I have the place all to myself aside from the pretzel girl shopping on her break.
I think if you are seriously shopping for electronics or the hottest item OUT THIS SEASON, you can pretty much get the things you want, reasonably priced sometimes between now and x-mas. I think!
Good luck black friday shoppers…may the force be with you! Just don’t trample anyone to death at Wal-mart again! Ok?

Had to laugh on “competitive” sport. I’m with you on getting to the mall when it’s the most quiet. During off season, I like to be one of the first people at the mall for whatever it is I need. This way I am done and out of there by the time the mall crowds really hit. You won’t see me near a mall until January 2nd.

We don’t this day in Canada… I guess the only think I can compare it to is boxing day shopping and before kids, I’d always be in the mall the day after Christmas for those fantastic deals! But those deals last all week, anyway… so… it’s not like you have to go on that ‘day’, you know? Not sure if the specials last beyond Black Friday for you guys, though! Anyway, like you said.. maybe not so worth it, especially with kids!

I don’t do Black Friday either. I love my sleep way to much for that. It would have to be one very good deal for me to venture out at that time.
My motto…if I can’t buy it online or during the week when no one is in the store, it ain’t happening.

PUNCHED??? That is completely awful! They call the masses of people rushing into stores “trampedes”. Very fitting, huh?

I have only shopped once on Black Friday and that was in New York City on Fifth Avenue not Walmart, Target or Toys R Us. It was awesome. I loved it and would do it again. Although, I love to go shopping on Fifth Avenue whenever I can it doesn’t have to be Black Friday!
